As an after thought, I had a quick look around on vlc's site, I found out
there's a feature in vlc to disable the screensaver while playing video.
Preferences Video, check the Advanced options box and uncheck the Disable
screensaver option.

I'm having this problem as well...no matter what amount of time I set in
Screensaver Prefs (I tried 10, 5, and 1 minutes), the screensaver never

Hmm seems to work now that I changed the default time setting to 1
