closing that works correctly on jaunty you can reopen if you still get
the issue after upgrading though

No, I don't have a computer running jaunty. I only have intrepid. In my
first answer I ment setting the binding in gconf-editor works properly.

In gnome-keybinding-properties I can't set modifier+multimedia key
combinations, so the bug is not fixed. (But setting the binding in
gconf-editor works.)

Yes, setting the key binding has the desired effect.
I also noticed compizConfig has a similar issue, when using "grab key
combination" with multimedia keys, modifiers are not grabbed, but using
the buttons to set modifiers works correctly.
