running gdmsetup still results in a segmentation fault for me:

I have a gdm.conf-custom which looks like this:

I am having the same problem and I don't understand how you resolved it.

probably correspond to that 2.4.10 change then:
"- Fix issue causes gdmsetup to fail improperly when the custom configuration
file cannot be found."
