there is nothing obvious in this log, at what time did you get the hang?
unassigning from evolution since whatever it does the desktop should not
hang, either xorg or linux get confused there

Please see attached files from the affected machine.
The bug still happens 100% of the time with evolution, thunderbird is
ok. Sometimes the screen is painted partially or fully black except for
the toolbar a few seconds after launching evolution. The mouse and
keyboard are unresponsive.

thank you for your bug report, do you get the issue every time and only
using evolution? could you add you /var/log/messages /var/log/syslog
/var/log/Xorg.0.log to the bug after getting the issue?
