Actually I believe this has been fixed in Karmic. I'll mark it as such
and do some extensive testing and re-open if I can reproduce it in

Could someone experiencing the issue try compiling g-p-m without the
notify-osd patch and see if the popup windows exhibit the same behavior?
If it's notify-osd-specific, then it is not an upstream bug.
