Jane, do you use a custom user theme? That looks like bug #24280, admin
doesn't have those theme installed so apps running with sudo get the
default theme instead of the one used by your user

Sorry, I wasn't very clear in my original post. I actually meant the
language selector from the log in screen.
On the login screen select Options - Select Language. You get a new
window with pop-ups to select the
