I can confirm this bug. I can't type anything into the deskbar when running
XGL. I can paste text into the deskbar, but I can't type anything.
It only happens when running XGL. When I stop the XGL server, deskbar works
fine -- but when I start XGL back up, the deskbar stops working.

I confirm this bug as well. You can put text into it by clicking with the
middle-mouse-button.
When selected it seems like the focus is overridden by the currently active
window, so this might rather be a bug in compiz.
When opening the Gnome-Menu, the focus in the deskbar becomes visible, but y
i confirm this bug on dapper up to date. There is now way to give the focus to
deskbar, neither by clicking on it nor by pressing the default shortcut ALT+F3.
It works fine when not running xgl/compiz.
