Public bug reported: Binary package hint: gnome-system-tools
On a newly installed Jaunty, I have a separate /home. I installed Jaunty over the older version in / partition. So obviously, users' home dirs existed in /home. /home was left alone during partition assignment step of the installation. Only / was formatted (and swap). After installation when I tried to add users with the same user names as before (i.e. matching their home dirs in /home), the GUI failed complaining the home dir already exists and telling me to use a different one. What should have happened is that the GUI should have seen that dir, reported it to me and asked if I wanted to use that one or to delete and recreate it or whether I wanted to use a different one. I had to use the adduser command instead to add the users. This is on a newly installed and updated Jaunty today (24 April, 2009). I am not at the machine right now so cannot give the exact version of the package. Thanks. ** Affects: gnome-system-tools (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Description changed: Binary package hint: gnome-system-tools - On a newly installed Jaunty, I have a separate /home.
