I experience the same symptoms as Ivan Pullen.
To reproduce bug:
1. open gedit
2. write text [I wrote standard ASCII characters] in the new file.
3. go to top menu and select save as.
- what happens: Several seconds (about 15 or so) passes during gedit is
unrepsonsive and the program is 'di

Save As - takes a long time for the dialog box to appear, screen dims.
Additionally, gedit chokes on some larger (but not huge) files. For
example, a 200kB sql file (a dump if a phpbb3 forum) routinely hangs

days ago. However, not only GEdit is affected, also Gthumb, Cheese and
