I already stated this, though a few people overlooked it (plus I haven't been
checking my e-mail regularly as of late). From a previous post:
"Also, I'm not having the problem on a clean install (exception: I copied my
user folder over) of Flight 6 (after installing the appropriate packages)."
I realized today that this no longer happens to me. Totem is working fine now
and, despite my best efforts, I can't figure out why. My version of
libxine-main1 is still 1.1.1+ubuntu2-6 . So that does not seem to be the
culprit.
Only thing I did recently is install the all-20050412.tar.bz2 c
Happens with xineui and gxine too according to one comment, reassigning

I can confirm this.
I had experienced this problem before. I do not remeber it happening before
upgrading from breezy to dapper.
When I download the file linked in the original report,
http://handofka.tehomgz.net/sky/vulak.avi , the same thing happened. Opening
from the terminal works fine,
could you try if xine-ui has the same issue?

modification I made was to add libmad0-dev as a build dependency so it could
finderprint MP3s.

hm, did you have stuff from 3rd party repositories or compiled yourself
installed on the system where it crashes?
otherwise it sounds really weird that it works fine on exactly the same machine
with a clean install and the same settings (copied home directory)

That stacktrace was done with a debug build of totem-xine, xinelib-main1, and
libxine-extracodecs. The problem only happened when it was launched from
Nautilus -- running it from the command line was fine.

As Kaffeine works fine this should be a totem bug imho... Kaffeine uses

Could be a libxine or an alsa bug, maybe you could get a backtrace with a debug
build of xine-lib?
