I have since purged beagle due to the high memory and disk I/O overheads
it has. But I'll test this setup again in a few days and report back.

I think I have found the source of the problem. It seems that deskbar gets into
a deadlock state in the following conditions:
- you are doing the first login after booting up the machine (and thus
everything is still being loaded from disk)
- deskbar is launched through the bonobo interface at

Nope, I don't think that's the problem because I've already tried waiting and
it doesn't change. Besides what you describe should also manifest when I tell
the panel to reload the applet after I do a 'kill $deskbars_pid'.

Thanks for your report. I'm almost sure from what I've witnessed that
you just need to be a bit more patient. It takes a small while to index
all the browser history, etc etc in the beginning and is 'blocked'
during that time. Can you try to wait a bit and see if that helps? If
that's the problem,
