Clearly there is a bug, if the user misentered information there has to
be a meaningful error message and not GPG: broken pipe. Furthermore
the error message should appear when entering wrong information,

I found the solution; this had been bothering me on one computer, but
not the other. To fix:
EditPreferencesMail AccountsAccount NameEditSecurityPGP/GPG Key ID
Set this value to null(blank it).

The reason it would not work is that I put the fingerprint not the ID as the
presaid value. Entering the OpenPGP key listed at

a temporary workaround for this issue which seems to work for me
consists of edit preferences mail accounts target account
edit security and ticking always trust keys in my keyring when
encrypting
i think this is an actual bug, i think it should ask if the particular
key should be trusted
