I'm getting the same error on the latest Ubuntu 9.10. I encountered it on SFTP and on SMB shares mounted via gvfs/nautilus. But I noticed that gedit does save the changes to the document, even if it says otherwise. But it disables saving altogether for this document until you close it. I also trie
