Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: nautilus

HOW TO REPRODUCE THIS BUG

1. Open two Nautilus windows, each open to a different directory and
both set to icon view. For purposes of this experiment, one of these
windows must have empty space at the bottom ... if you have four columns
of icons in a window, there should be three or fewer icons in the bottom
row.

2. Try to drag-and-drop an icon into that window. Target the large empty
space where there are no icons, at the bottom.

3. Note that it doesn't work; you release the clicker, but nothing
happens.

4. Try again, targetting a space in between icons this time. Note that
it actually works.

5. Wonder why it works that way and doesn't work the other way, when the
large empty space in the window is the easiest target.

Further experimentation with various windows shows that it sometimes
works with an empty row below the last one in a window, but doesn't
below that space.

EXPECTED BEHAVIOR

Drag-and-drop should "just work." You shouldn't have to repeat it
multiple times looking for the right space to target.

INTERPOLATION

A bug this obvious should have already been reported. Maybe it's just
me? Only one way to find out!

RECOMMENDATION

If this bug is triaged and marked as valid, it might make a good
candidate for a "100 Paper Cuts" round.
