vesa does not work here and fglrx is not available for ppc.
but disabling dri/glx seems to fix this.

I have the same problem, also using the xorg ati driver. This was a problem in
the clearlooks-cairo theme engine as well, before clearlooks was reverted to
its pre-cairo version.
I have the problem on a Radeon 9200mobility, but I have never seen the problem
on my desktop system which has an NV

default ati drivers of xorg. i think that there are not even proprietary
drivers for the powerpc architecture.
i only see this using the ubuntulooks engine. all seems ok using the clearlooks
or traditional theme.
i can attach my xorg.conf if i am at home again. but no extra options are used.

is that specific to that theme? do you use any special driver
acceleration or option for your ati card? do you use the ati or the
fglrx driver?
