Almost make this bug as reopen.
To make clock horizontal in vertical panel you need to make panel wide
enough, in my case(Ubuntu 9.10) it is 44 pixels.

This upload fixes the issue:

- Don't block when X is killed
- Use GtkRecent
- Don't use GnomeDesktopItem where possible

Thanks Sebastien. Since older versions did not do this I assumed it was
a bug. As a feature I personally think it's fairly brain-dead, but hey
:) I'll follow the upstream bug.

Thanks for your bug. That's not a bug but a feature. The label used to
not be rotated (ie: horizontal on screen) and that pushed the panel
limit to something ugly. There is a bug open upstream about using the
rotation only when appropriate:

could you provide screenshot of this wrong behaviour and describe more clearly
what do you expect from this applet?
On my dapper when I put panel on the left-hand side of the screen then clock is
rotated and also main menu is - and I think that this is ok - I could see clock
and main menu entri
