x doesn't ask. Gnome did at the time.
Sebastian, Daniel any idea why gnome doesn't check anylonger? X does not run
and never did xmodmap automatically.

Thanks! Renaming the file to ~/.xmodmap made GNOME ask the proper question.
Feel free to either add .xmodmaprc as an alternative or close this bug as is. :)

The filename has not changed, it looks correct since that's for some
datas and not a configuration. Closing as rejected, feel free to reopen
if you disagree. You can change the gconf key
/desktop/gnome/peripherals/keyboard/general/known_file_list too to
change the filename to look for
