I have just updated to Evolution 2.30 hoping to solve the problem but it didn't.
I think it is important to solve this because many people turn to thunderbird
due to time taken to load images.
It's a shame because I think Evolution is really good.

Is there any progress on this. It's a shame it's been classed as low
priority. Half of my emails have images. It is excruciatingly slow. to
load them.

Ok I used evolutions backup and then on Karmic imported from the
archive.
I'm afraid image loading is still very slow on Karmic. The images
loading can be seen in the status bar one by one and the message pain is
blank while they're being downloaded from the net.
