I can confirm this with an Apple MacBook and remote control. Closing the lid initiates DPMS Off, pressing buttons on the remote (mapped to XF86Media* multimedia keys) causes DPMS on. I agree it seems to be g-p-m, not gnome-screensaver, that's doing this. All I could do to mitigate it is to set the
