I have tested this on an up-to-date Hardy Beta. All works as expected,
so I am happy for this to be marked as fixed.

traceroute.c didn't change between 2.14 to 2.18. My guess the bug was
introduced by the Ubuntu customization (it uses tracepath instead
tcptraceroute/traceroute).
In Ubuntu Feisty, at the moment of paste, the output is the following:
I'm not familiar with launchpad and I haven't found how to reopen this bug;
which I can confirm.
Neither I haven't found how to take out the 'upstream dependency'; because this
is bug is in Ubuntu, not upstream.

Hi Daniel,
I would love to test it for you, but I am on an OE until late June
2007 without my computer. I think that I would have tested middle
click dragging with everything else - I spent a fair bit of time
trying to get it to copy. Whether it works or not, the behaviour is
different to the
Aaron? Any news testing this?

Does .xsession-errors contain anything interesting? Does middle-clicking
on the mouse paste it?

This occurs on both Dapper (fully updated) and Edgy beta1 (running in
VMWARE). Neither of the three copy methods work for traceroute but has
no problem with other tools.
Another detail, when we try to copy something in traceroute window,
previously copied content is erased from memory (which is
Ctrl-C, Ctrl-V works for me in Edgy, but I agree that it's not really
obvious.
