I also had this issue however after a recent update it does appear to be
fixed, can you confirm that with the latest updates it's fixed for you?

My laptop is doing the exact same thing. It is a Toshiba Satellite
A205-S5812. Every time I open the lid the computer gives me the login
screen for a split second then sleeps again. I press the power button
again and it wakes up that time.

i have the same problem (happens often but not all the time) on a
different hardware (macbook 3,1)...
i guess it's also related with bug 397839 (i even get the notify that
