Same problem for me on ubuntu 10.10 32bit, video and audio files plays
too fast with no sound. The problem disappears if I disable the HDMI
output (RS780 Azalia controller) in sound preferences.

totem plays vid
This problem appears to be connected to sound. If I go to the Sound
preferences tool, the only hardware I have available is the HDMI output
on my video card ("R700 Audio Device"). If I disable this device, then
video plays fine. If I leave it enabled, totem plays at hyperspeed.
