In my Lucid system I never encountered this and there is also no
"~/.config/user-dirs.dirs" in this Lucid install in ROOT.
I would have presumed that if I had modified the file as above, that even a new
release would then be correctly configured.
Also, I have not done a completely new Karmic inst
"Have you checked if your xdg user dirs are in order? They might be related to
your problem.
Note that you can also use this file to change the default Pictures folder to
whatever you want.
