I just looked at this again, and in current Feisty, this no longer
happens. Marking as fixed.

You received this bug not
because nautilus has nothing to do with the applet and that was
obviously wrong. If that happens to the applet and nautilus that's
likely to be due to gnome-vfs2 then

Why did you change this bug to say that it affects gnome-applets?
As far as I can tell, it's a nautilus problem, because the DVD drive also does
not appear in nautilus' places bar/menu.

I just installed Edgy on my new computer, with every hardware part different,
except for the same DVD drive, and it still does not appear correctly.
It looks to be a general problem with Lite-On DVD drives?

Did the lshal log help in determining the problem?
If not, is there anything else I can do?

It's a data DVD. If I mount it manually, it still does not show up.
If I insert a movie DVD, and mount it manually, it also does not show up.

according to that log the DVD is not mounted. What sort of DVD did you
use. Does mounting the DVD from a command line make it being listed?

I previously used Dapper, but have upgraded to Edgy and still have this issue.
I just tried with another 5 DVDs, and all exhibited this behaviour.
hal-device-manager also shows an emtpy label.

Could you run /usr/share/nautilus-cd-burner/list_cddrives with the DVD

Let me clarify again exactly what is happening.
When no CD or DVD is in either of my drives, both do not show up in the places
menu and in the mount applet -> fine.
When a CD is in the CD or DVD drive, the corresponding drive does show up in
the places menu and in the mount applet -> also fine
Wh
Uh, no comment in the bug you linked to says that it is intended that a
mounted DVD does not show up in the places menu or in the mount applet,
it just says that SD-card etc readers should not show up always.

Thanks for your bug. What version of Ubuntu do you use? Is that specific
to data DVDs? Does it happens with all of the data disks but none of
other type? Does the DVD gets mounted and do you open a nautilus window
for it?
