I've seen numerous accounts of this issue all over the Ubuntu forums and here
in launchpad.
In my case, it appears to be due to my mixer having an LFE in the wrong
order.
Is there no way we can have Ubuntu autodetect this and set the correct

When I boot system I need to manually change hardware from 7.1 surround
+ input to something and back to get sub-woofer to work properly.
I have Asus M2N-SLI deluxe motherboard and no problems with sounds while
using 9.04 so this is definetly related to Karmic Koala's c
Is it possible that the fact I had my volume hotkeys bound to both the
LFE channel and the PCM channels would impact this?
I noticed that in Karmic that I have no way of changing this setting,
but perhaps it's still stuck in a configuration file somewhere?

Also, when I open up alsamixer, if I press the volume "up" key, it peggs
the LFE and PCM volumes to the top before gradually increasing the
master channel...
This probably isn't the best way of aggregating the three controls
