I have the Karmic beta installed with all the updates, and now it's working for
me too.

I confirm that it does NOT crash in Karmic RC 32bit.
@evfool: fix committed means it's fixed in upstream trunk, fix released
means it's fixed in Ubuntu (latest version). Which version are you on?
