Public bug reported: Binary package hint: gdm
On both a fresh 9.10 installation and an upgrade from 9.04 to 9.10, under System > Administration > Users and Groups, Add User, there is an option shown in the dialogue labelled "Don't ask for password on login", but it is greyed out and can not be selected. I do not know whether it worked on previous versions. The fix appears to be a combination of creating a group called "nopasswdlogin" and changing some configuration files relating to gdm and pam. The addition of the group is sufficient to bring the checkbox into focus, but the gdm/pam changes are necessary for it to actually work. The details of these fixes can be found in the latest comments on Bug #396459, but I believe this to be separate from the issue that bug was originally filed to address. Of note they link to http://www.danellis.co.uk/drupal/node/7 and http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=12777&page=2 for the relevant information. (Yes, this is a separate issue unrelated to either the "automatic login" option in the gdm config or the "guest session" presented by FUSA.) Version number of gdm as shipped with Karmic is 2.28.1-0ubuntu1, but then you knew that. ** Affects: gdm (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- "Don't ask for password on login" option is unavailable https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/469935 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gdm in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
