Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gedit

If i press the F9 key to show/hide the sidepane, Gedit freezes (the
translucent gray layer) until i click somewhere. It works to select the
"View > Side Pane" menu item, but the F9 key is handier and my prefered
way to do it.

Guidelines, as directed below the information text area:

1) The release of Ubuntu you are using
-- Ubuntu 9.10 Karmic (Gnome edition)

2) The version of the package you are using
-- Default Gedit package "gedit 2.28.0" (as reported by gedit's Help > About).
If it matters, I've tried to deactivate all the plugins and restarted gedit,
but the issue persists.

apt-cache policy gedit
gedit:
  Installed: 2.28.0-0ubuntu2
  Candidate: 2.28.0-0ubuntu2
  Version table:
 *** 2.28.0-0ubuntu2 0
        500 http://archive.ubuntu.com karmic/main Packages
        100 /var/lib/dpkg/status

3) What you expected to happen
-- Pressing F9 in focused Gedit shows or hides the Side Pane

4) What happened instead
-- Gedit freezes (the translucent gray layer) and recovers when i click on the
translucent area.
