I cannot reproduce this on Ubuntu Karmic 9.10. I'm using an English language setting and an Australian locale. Ilmari - what are your language and locale settings? My locale output is: home-01:~$ locale LANG=en_AU.UTF-8 LC_CTYPE=en_AU.UTF-8 LC_NUMERIC=en_AU.UTF-8 LC_TIME=en_AU.UTF-8
