@jhansonxi: although it's related, it's not a full duplicate of 508632.
One important aspect of this bug is that you can press CTRL+L to go from
buttons to text entry but there is no way to revert that: the CTRL+L
toggle only works one way, when it should really work both ways. 508632

There is a key in gconf to control this behavior,
/apps/nautilus/preferences/always_use_location_entry. I unchecked it on
mine (buttons instead of text in put) and could change back to text
input with CTRL+L, but couldn't go back to the buttons with CTRL+L.

Pressing CTRL+L works. But then i can not go back to the breadcrum navigation
(i tried again CTRL+L)
I really liked the button to switch. But maybe this is not a bug, it's a feature

and when i close nautilus (after i pressed CTRL+L and switched to
address line) and reopen nautilus, i have the breadcrum navigation
again. So nautilus does not remember the last state.
