on the topic. It seems to be a design decision and not a bug. Extracting
one file or directory to a subdirectory would make no sense, extracting
100 files to the current directory can be confusing, the logic seems to
be
The real solution to that problem would be to select the extracted
files, not to arbitarily have different behaviour depending on the
amount of files in the archive

Chris's idea is more intuitive I think. Also, it's been a while since
I've encountered an archive containing multiple files which doesn't have
a parent folder, making this extra folder redundant.

If there is only one file then it is extracted into the current
directory. It makes sense to extract multiple files into a directory
like it currently does. To move the files from the created directory to
the current directory one simply has to cut/paste them, whilst to do it
the other way around
