Thank you for your quick response. Currently I am running form a Live-
USB, and 'apt-get upgrade' seems to fail for this reason.
Thursday I'll attempt to do a full install and upgrade to see if my
problem persists, and report my findings.

The document at the link you provided looks OK here.
This bug seems to have been fixed in poppler 0.12.4-0ubuntu3, which has
since been superseded by poppler 0.12.4-0ubuntu4.
Could you please update to the latest versions of evince and poppler and
retest?
