This still happens to me several times a day with gnome-screensaver
2.30.2-0ubuntu2. It is not fixed.
I think that I may have noticed a correlation between the occurrence of
this bug and the use of Ctrl-Alt-L to manually start the screensaver.

Impact: On Lucid and Maverick, gnome-screensaver has a race condition
that makes it start twice from time to time, resulting in a poor user
experience.
The bug has been addressed by adding a patch that makes sure gnome-
screensaver can only be run once, and that when spawned as a Dbu
