I think this is a syntax highlighting issue. Only files with know syntax used
to crash for me. But now gedit just goes through them reaaly slow. And
the line numbers disappear. But no more error for me
I'm using Version 2.30.2

I have the same bug... Even if the lines are less than 500 if I scroll
down quickly Gedit crashes.

if you look at the backtrace you attached you'll see a lot of #2
0x772f7b28 in ?? () from /usr/lib/libgtk-x11-2.0.so.0
those ?? are missing symbols, so no the dbg package is not installed for those.

and get a new one? the one you submitted is missing a few symbols,
