I have updated to gnome 2.16, so natilus should be the same ver.

I cannot reproduce this bug en_US.UTF-8 locale, I trashed 3 files and
trashapplet shows "3 Items in Trash". Can you always reproduce this?
Have you tried with another locale?
What version of nautilus do you have?
