I tried to reproduce your problem. But I was not successful in Edgy.
Your problem might be fixed in Edgy.
Could you please download the Desktop CD of Edgy Knot 3 (from
http://ftp.acc.umu.se/mirror/cdimage.ubuntu.com/releases/edgy/knot-3/ or
another mirror), boot from it and look if the problem
