I've attached a patch that should fix this upstream however I could not
reproduce the bug on my system so its untested. Is someone with this
issue able to apply the patch and test that it works?

I am not a user of Ubuntu anymore, thus cannot test the version in
Ubuntu. However, the bug is so simple that you should really test it
yourself. And it does exist in version 2.30.4 in Gentoo.
