your description has nothing to do with the upstream one. The fix is to
avoid having rhythmbox crashing when the ipod is disconnected, nothing
to do with remove a song from it

What do you have from the repos?
The Rhtyhmbox-project have released version 0.9.6 which is now in ubuntu.
After 0.9.6 the Rhythmbox project has fixed a bug in their CVS. I think this
fix should be applied to the ubuntu package to.
The link is not to a debdiff but to upstream CVS diff of the bugf
