This is still the case even with the most recent version 11.04 of Ubuntu. The disk is not blanked, it is simply overwritten. Overwriting a disk is usually never needed and reduces the lifespan of the disk. This is a simple bug to fix and all that needs changing is the wording on the GUI. The

I believe it should say overwrite disk. Blanking a disk means to make it blank and reset all the bits - this does not happen if this button is clicked. The disk is not blanked and then written to, it is simply overwritten in a single pass. -- You received this bug notification because you are a
