the steps you describe should bring you back to the same point. Are the
items moved correctly now or still copied? The partitions are not the
same, copy should be the default action then

There is no such setting. Did you change the partition where the Desktop
directory is installed?

I'll explain the real situation, so you can understand what happened:
- /mnt/cont is the mountpoint of an ext3 partition
- / is another partition, /home/emi is in this partition.
- /home/emi/Desktop is a symlink to /mnt/cont/linux_home/Desktop
I had the bug with this situation. Then I moved
I solved the problem, moving the Desktop dir to another place, making
and empty desktop dir, log in, log out, moving the old desktop back. The
icons now are normal, using the same symlink.
Perhaps could nautilus remember settings about icon behaviour?

It could be that... Desktop in my home is a symlink to a directory on another
ext3 partition. This evening, when I go to home I'll try to create another user
with a local home, and I'll tell you if this happens.
Perhaps, it's a regression on dapper. I have the same configuration with dapper
Thanks for your bug. Do you use a local partition for your user
directory? Are you user directory and Desktop on the same partition? I
don't have that issue on my edgy desktop
