Keyboard layout indicator in Ubuntu 10.10 has no icons or labels

I've found the bug report https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/663630
It's caused by removing notification area, in that case keyboard
indicator moves to tray. The ability to remove notification area should
be disabled (at least in GUI), since it is not supported by ubuntu.

I am not able to reproduce it here too. Have you checked if you have
configured more layouts in gnome-keyboard-properties?
