Bug was on an upgraded system (from 10.10, from 10.04, from 9.10). I did
a fresh install and the bug is gone. Sorry to be unable to provide more

The users i see at GDM greeter are, 'dave' and 'mysql' - which doesn't
seem to correlate with below:
$ ck-history --frequent
