Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-settings-daemon

I just logged in after upgrading (apt-get upgrade, not apt-get dist-
upgrade). The panel at the top of the screen wasn't themed properly, it
looks default GNOME grey. Similarly, GNOME widgets have the default
(ugly) GNOME styling.

Rick Spencer was nearby and said it was because gnome-settings-daemon
wasn't running. When I ran gnome-settings-daemon from the terminal, I
got these warnings:

$ gnome-settings-daemon

** (gnome-settings-daemon:16310): WARNING **: Failed to acquire
org.gnome.SettingsDaemon

** (gnome-settings-daemon:16310): WARNING **: Could not acquire name
