I was facing this problem then realized that my .bash_history file was
owned by root! Changing its ownership to my user solved it.

I've had this problem where the first command I run on the terminal was
through sudo. This created by .bash_history file owned by root, so it
could never be written in. This might, or might not, be the cause of
your problem...
To test this, can you run this command:
ls -la ~/.bash_history

Hello! I have the same problem after I did a fresh install of natty. No
history saved. In a forum thread a solution was mentioned saying that
the history would be saved if the terminal is closed with ctrl+d or by
typing "exit" instead of with the x-close-button. Nevertheless, this
