Public bug reported: Binary package hint: gnome-volume-manager
After manually mounting a partition (using /bin/mount) an icon for the volume appears on the Feisty LiveCD desktop. Right-clicking on the icon and selecting "Unmount Volume" causes an error message box: Cannot unmount volume. "Cannot unmount the volume." Then clicking on Details shows: "Cannot open /media/.hal-mtab" Now I understand that the user isn't supposed to do this (manually mount the volume using the shell and then try to unmount using the desktop) because doing the same on an installed instance of Feisty it shows the error message box a different message: Cannot unmount volume. "The volume was probably mounted manually on the command line." Then clicking on Details shows: "Device to unmount is not in /media/.hal-mtab so it is not mounted in HAL" When using the LiveCD the error message doesn't indicate what the true problem is.
