Display automatically dims in few seconds of inactivity to a black
screen making
The same problem here with Ubuntu 11.10 beta 2 64 bit on a desktop PC
without any battery. The Dim option is no longer available in System
Settings - Screen. A monitor is dimmed immediately when the PC becomes
inactive. Setting turn off after 1 hour helps a bit.

To
Killing gnome-screensaver prevents this problem, but on reboot, I have
to remember to kill it again. Also the user status icon keeps changing
to away when the display dims. But after killing gnome-screensaver, the
user status icon still keeps changing.

gnome-screensaver process starts again with the command gnome-
screensaver --no-daemon and the parent process pid is 1 :-(
