Please correct me if I'm wrong and be patient with me because I am not
an expert: I experience the same problem, and I assume that I have the
2.30 version because the output of `dpkg -s libglib2.0-0` is:

do you use glib 2.31 from a ppa or something?

Same here - assuming you mean eog (eye of gnome)
I have switched to mirage - this works pretty well
Here is what I get when I try running eog with debug turned on:
~$ eog --gtk-debug=all Pictures/Wallpaper/beach.jpg
Loading module list: canberra-gtk-module:canberra-gtk-module
gtk-modules
Status changed to 'Confirmed' because the bug affects multiple users.
