Yet this still it is a bug, as the application should tell the user this
shortcut is not a posibillity, as a NORMAL user does NOT expect a window
information box to appear when defining a shortcut. Configuration issues
should not exists in applications focused on the end user. When one

"It works for me. The only problem is that Alt + space is already used by
default in GNOME. Therefore, you have to change your GNOME keyboard shortcuts
to deactivate the use of Alt+space."

Thanks, hotfigs, that works perfectly for me.
I think it's just bad that we have a Bug-Tracker for Deskbar here but no
dev or team-member seems to be reading :(

maintainer working on desktop and thousand of bugs open, not easy to
work on everything

I had the same problem. I found a workaround which might help someone
until the problem is fixed.
Open up gconf-editor, go to apps -> deskbar and change the keybinding to
whatevery you need e.g. for me "space"
