I am running Edgy. I followed the first step to generate a backtrace, but I am
stuck at :
"Start the program under control of gdb:"
The crash happens when I right click on the panel and add "main menu" to it. So
I don't know which 'program' this action is related to.

What version of Ubuntu are you running? Could you please try these
instructions https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProgramCrash and generate
a backtrace and attach it (don't paste it in the comments!) to this bug
report?
