Ok that explains a lot of things. Indeed these files can't play in Totem. Totem can't play quicktime files at all. When I try to, it searches for a "quicktime multiplexing plugin" which it doesn't find (well whenever Totem searches for a plugin it doesn't have, I've NEVER seen it find it in my lif

Quicktime should be supported by a plugin in the gstreamer0.10-plugins- good package -- do you have this installed? If not, could you check whether installing it makes a difference? I can play quicktime videos with totem on my machine, but presumably different versions of the quicktime codec exist

Ok. I guess you can also see the test movie that is installed by checkbox: /usr/share/checkbox/data/video/Quicktime_Video.mov ? I saw your movie uses ffmjpeg as a codec, thats different from the one in the movies I tried. Could you try installing all the other gstreamer plugin modules, i.e. do s

The same happens with mov files that are encoded with other codecs, e.g. DV codec instead of mjpeg. The problem seems to be the quicktime format, not the codec. The "plugin" totem searches for and cannot find when I try to play the file is "quicktime demuxer" And by the way this is a regression:
